Education, Training, Professional Development

My curiosity and determination to learn has taken me in a variety of directions.  Beginning with a Bachelor of Science and followed by a Bachelor of Education, I pursued a teaching career.  My interest in spiritual tradition, culture, and philosophy then drew my attention to a Masters of Divinity and over a decade of work focused on spiritual formation.  Most recently, I have completed a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology and am focusing my efforts in private practice counselling.

My Style and Approach to Therapy

I am proudest of my work when clients report that they have felt seen and heard through the process of therapy.  Seeing and hearing are the principal modes through which I operate.  Reflecting what I have seen and heard through a variety of therapeutic lenses (eg. cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, narrative, spiritual, and existential approaches…) generates an increasingly panoramic view through which an individual may discover new and hopeful possibilities.

If it is true that “how we see anything is how we see everything”, then a reality in which we are continuously learning something new about ourselves is also a reality in which we are continuously finding new prospects and potentials.  Therapeutic solutions appear almost spontaneously when an individual has the experience of expanded “seeing”.

Personal Activities

I enjoy new experiences …taking in the scene on Lake Ontario’s shoreline, reading a good book, hearing a great album, picking up an instrument.  For me, what makes it wonderful is good company, and I share all of this with a beloved partner of over 20 years, four exceptional young boys, and a tirelessly energetic dog.
